Local gymnasts fly high in Burnaby

The Kamloops Gymnastics and Trampoline Club brought 14 female gymnasts to the Flicka Gymnastics Club-hosted North Shore Invitational in Burnaby on the weekend (Feb. 11 and Feb. 12).

Emily Schultz placed fifth all-around and won silver on bars in a deep division featuring athletes from B.C. and Alberta.

Emily Matthew, competing, in the 10-and-under national level prospects division, placed seventh all-around.

Kassia Gifford tied for fifth all-around in the Level 5 novice division and won bronze on bars.

Lauren Wotton, in the Level 4 Open Division, placed fourth all-around and won bronze on beam.

Shayla Gifford won bronze all-around in Level 4 Tyro competition, while teammate Jennaya Motokado placed fourth all-around in the same category.

Kierra Patterson won bronze all-around in the Level 3 Novice division.

Christine Strain placed seventh all-around in the Level 2 Argo category, while teammate Linnea Ganstol placed sixth on floor.

Matthew, Motokado, Mark Thibault, Taylor Berthelot and Jason Dahlgren will now prepare for the B.C. Winter Games, which run from Feb. 23 to Feb. 26 in Vernon.
