Third-period fury
The Kamloops Blazers saved their best for the last period of a tilt with the Portland Winterhawks on Wednesday, March 7, at Interior Savings Centre.
Down 1-0 heading into the final frame, the Blazers scored five times to sink the Winterhawks in front of the biggest home crowd of the season (5,693).
Colin Smith tied the game and within five minutes the score was 3-1 in favour of Kamloops thanks to goals from Chase Souto and Jordan DePape.
Brandon Herrod scored into an empty net and Ryan Hanes added insult to injury, scoring with seven seconds left on the clock.
It was A&W Teen Burger night, meaning if the Blazers scored four or more goals and won everyone with a ticket would get one of the restaurant's signature burgers free of charge.
Every still-open A&W location in the city experienced unusual Wednesday night drive-thru volume.
Next up for Kamloops are the Giants in Vancouver on Friday, March 9.
The Blazers host the back end of the home-and-home series on Saturday, March 10, at ISC.
Puck-drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
