WHL suspends Madaisky
The Kamloops Blazers will be without one of their best defencemen for games three and four of a WHL Western Conference quarter-final series with the Victoria Royals.
Blazer blue-liner Austin Madaisky was suspended two games by the league for a hit on Royals' forward Zane Jones.
He was ruled to have made contact with Jones' head.
"I never really received much of an explanation, but I watched a replay," said Madaisky, who is on Vancouver Island with the Blazers.
"There was no intent to hurt Jones or hit him directly in the head.
"It seemed he kind of put himself in a bit of a vulnerable position and there was definitely contact made with the head.
"I had no intention of doing that."
Madaisky was surprised to hear he would be missing two games, both of which will be held in Victoria at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, on Tuesday, March 27, and Wednesday, March 28.
"I was told to expect something and that two games was the maximum penalty," he said.
"I didn't expect it to be two games."
