Mosquito Sun Devils wrap season
The Kamloops Minor Baseball Association mosquito Sun Devils finished their season on Sunday, Aug. 5, by going 1-3 at the provincial AAA Tier 2 championship in Cloverdale.
Starting pitcher Alex Tonge kept host Cloverdale to one run in the early going of the first game.
Alex Wright hit a grand-slam and was the player of the game in the 15-11 loss. Tonge and Samuel Thacker both notched doubles.
The Sun Devils defeated Comox Valley 15-5 in a game suspended by darkness and completed the next morning.
Starting pitcher Ethan Lans kept the Cardinals to one hit over three innings, receiving MVP for his efforts.
Jordan Calibaba recorded a triple for the Sun Devils and also notched two strikeouts on the mound.
In Game 3, closer Nolan Austin was MVP, notching four strikeouts in the 9-5 loss to the tourney's silver medallists, the Abbotsford Angels.
Calibaba and Tonge each had two hits for the Sun Devils.
Kamloops lost its final game to the Ladner Red Sox 10-5. Ladner went on to win gold.
Starter Mitchell Vosper allowed no hits.
MVP Liam Applegath had three hits and allowed only one hit in an inning of pitching.
