Ryan Dergousoff, a David Thompson elementary student, was named a Burnaby Mountain Selects (BMS) Scholar Athlete Award winner.
Established in 2010, the awards were created to help celebrate academic achievement and on-field excellence for each scholastic year.
This year’s awards recognized 85 student-athletes who competed in the fall of 2011 and/or summer of 2012 BMS Elite Touring Program and achieved an academic average of 80 per cent or higher for the 2011-2012 school year.
Dergousoff played midfield for the elite team, which tours North America and is designed to prepare players for a collegiate field-hockey career.
