Blazers remain unbeaten
The Kamloops Blazers moved their pre-season WHL record to 4-0 with a 5-4 win over the Vancouver Giants in Ladner on Friday, Sept. 7.
JC Lipon, a 19-year-old winger from Regina, scored with 12 seconds remaining in overtime to sink the Giants.
Kamloops was down three goals with 17 minutes left to play in the third frame when Cole Ully scored to cue the comeback.
Rob Rob Trzonkowski scored with less than five minutes to play and Colin Smith notched the equalizer with 56 seconds on the clock.
Rookie Mitch Friesen was the other Blazer goal scorer.
Lipon has scored four goals and racked up three assists in three pre-season games.
Cole Cheveldave made 32 stops between the pipes for Kamloops on Friday.
The Giants started Liam Liston, who made 18 saves on 19 shots before being replaced by Payton Lee.
John Neibrandt, Nathan Burns, Riley Kieser and Taylor Makin scored for Vancouver.
Anthony Ast, who is facing suspension after being assessed a checking to the head major last week, was not in the Giants’ lineup.
Blazer Chase Souto, who was on the receiving end of Ast’s hit, also sat out.
The Blazers are next in action against the Prince George Cougars on Friday, Sept. 14, at Interior Savings Centre.
Game time is 7 p.m.
It is the last preseason tilt for the Blazers, who open the regular season against Kelowna at ISC on Friday, Sept. 21.
