Blazers dethrone Royals
With a 5-2 win over the Victoria Royals, the Kamloops Blazers leapfrogged their opponents into first place in the B.C. Division on Wednesday (Oct. 10) at Interior Savings Centre.
Five different goal scorers —JC Lipon, Colin Smith, Brendan Ranford, Tim Bozon and Cole Ully — lit the lamp for Kamloops (6-0-0-1), which has yet to lose in regulation this season.
Kamloops netminder Cole Cheveldave was solid when he needed to be, with the highlight of his game coming late in the third period, when he stopped two shots in close.
The Blazers went the other way and Ully slotted a nail-in-the-coffin goal, served up to him on a platter in front of the net.
Lipon, the reigning CHL and WHL player of the week, added an assist to go with his marker.
Taylor Crunk played well for the visitors, notching a goal and fighting Kamloops forward Aaron Macklin.
It was Macklin's first WHL tilt.
Jamie Crooks was the other Royal goal scorer.
Kamloops is hosting Spokane on Friday, Oct. 12, closing out a four-game homestand before embarking on a five-game road trip.
Puck-drop on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m.
