Spence success
The Spence sisters of Kamloops were at it again at a Canada Cup event in Quebec on the weekend.
Tori Spence, 20, a member of the national development team, skated to a gold-medal finish in the 5,000m with a time of 8:09.92, a personal best.
Earlier in the competition, she won silver in the 3,000m with a personal-best time — and new provincial record — of 4:37.21.
Tori also finished fifth in the 1,500m and 11th in the 500m.
Her younger sister, 18-year-old Josie, set four personal-best times and four new junior provincial records.
Josie won gold in the 1,500m, with a time of 2:10.87, and was first in the 3,000m, with a time of 4:36.68.
She skated to bronze in the first of two 1,000m events, with a time of 1:25.45, and a silver medal in the second 1,000m race, with a time of 1:25.34.
Josie was eighth in the first of two 500m races, with a time of 43.08, and seventh in the second 500m event, with a time of 42.06.
The Canada Cups are used to determine national rankings for positions on national and development teams.
The competitions are open to junior and senior skaters who meet specific distance time standards.
Both Spence sisters are members of the Kamloops River City Racers.
