KMHA round-up, Dec. 14 to Dec. 16

Titanic matchup

In atom recreation play on Dec. 15, the Kamloops Titans downed the Kamloops Legends 9-7.

Leading the way for the Titans were team captain Jameson Rende (4G), Nathan Underhill (2G), Brooke Cave (2G, 1A), Kyle Sandher (1G) and  Caleb Campbell (1A), while netminder Isaac Bean made several key stops in the third period to secure the win.

Bean took home the Heart and Hustle Championship belt for his efforts between the pipes.

Scoring for the Legends were Tyler Fernie (4G), Bryce Bertuzzi (1G), Aiden Dell (1G) and Brendan Ice (1G). Bryton Neufeld was in net.

Nailers downed

The atom development Western Roofing Nailers dropped a pair of games on the weekend.

Western Roofing lost 5-2 to the Vernon WolfPack at Valleyview Arena on Saturday, a day before losing 4-3 to the Kelowna Kings in the Little Apple on Sunday.

Logan Stankoven (3G), Jacob Proulx (1G), Matthew Mariona (1G) and Harrison Ewert (2A) recorded points for the Nailers on the weekend.

Adam Niles backstopped Western Roofing on Saturday, with Austin Krug taking over in the crease on Sunday.

Hericanes breathe fire at Penticton tournament, win gold

The Kamloops Hericanes won the atom division at the Fire on Ice Tournament in Penticton on Sunday, Dec. 16.

Kamloops and Merritt were tied 3-3 after regulation and overtime play in the final, so the game went to a shootout, where Hericanes netminder Rebekah Schmutz stopped all three shots she faced.

Natalie Knight of Kamloops was the shootout’s lone scorer. She also scored in regulation, as did Nicole Thomas, with two goals, and Carsen Moffett.

Kamloops downed teams from Wenatchee, Penticton and Merritt en route to the championship game.

Schmutz twice earned game MVP honours at the tournament. PJ Ouimet and Moffett were each named MVPs once.

Icehawks swoop to victory

The 7 Points Millwork Icehawks edged the Scotiabank Bandits 3-2 in an OMAHA Atom Development clash of cross-town rivals Saturday at McArthur Island Sports Centre.

Jarrod Semchuk, Ashton Taylor and Harjun Serown scored in support of Icehawks goaltender Jared Sucro.

Reed Watson and Ty Haywood-Farmer scored for the Bandits, who went with Bailey Monteith in net. Haywood-Farmer also earned the hardhat as the Bandits’ hardest-working player of the game.

Rockets blast off

The Timbits Rockets downed the Timbits Thunder 6-4 in KMHA Novice Orange action Saturday at Brock Arena.

David Brown, Jake Poulsen, Kaden Linquist, Kieran Maloney, Rylan Newport and Jarrett Dumais scored to lead the Rockets, who got a standout performance from goaltender Kolby Hay. Dumais claimed the team’s hardest-working-player hardhat, and Newport received the coaches’ game puck.

Nolan Viesner tallied twice to pace the Thunder, with Carter Streek and Mathew MacDonald each getting singles to round out the scoring.

Vikes win shootout

The Vikings won a 9-8 thriller over the Titans in peewee recreation play on Saturday.

Pacing the Vikings — who went with Xavier Cannon in net — were Kyllan Thibault (2G), Dylan Dudley (2G), Caleb Jeffery (1G), Cole Standen (2G), Tyler Standen (1G) and Connor Humphrey (1G).

Scoring for the Titans in support of goaltender Atticus Foulds were Christopher Penner (3G), Spencer Shyiak (4G) and Foster Wynne (1G).

Crushers post win

The Crushers edged the Coyotes 8-7 in Novice Orange division play.

Zakery Anderson  (3G), Grady Egeland (2G, 1A), Jed Smallman (1G), Colton Yawney (1G), Owen Geiger (1G) and Jagger De La Gorgendiere (2A) recorded points for the Crushers.

Replying with goals for the Coyotes were Mathew Ward (4G), Brendan Smith (2G) and Manny Recchi (1G).

Samuel Ward was between the pipes for the Coyotes.
