A pair of goals from Tim Bozon lifted the Kamloops Blazers to a 5-2 win over the Everett Silvertips in WHL action at Interior Savings Centre tonight (Jan. 14).
The Blazers opened the scoring at 8:56 of the first period, when newly acquired forward Brandon Herrod beat Everett goalie Kent Simpson on a feed from Tyler Hansen and Dylan Willick.
Bozon added another marker on a Blazer power play late in the first, from JC Lipon and Colin Smith to put the home team up 2-0 after 20 minutes.
Kamloops captain Chase Schaber tallied an unassisted shorty just over two minutes into the second period to give the Blazers a 3-0 lead, but Everett D-man Ryan Murray answered back midway through the middle frame with a power-play marker to cut the lead back down to two.
It would remain 3-1 until 3:42 of the third period, when Bozon — from Lipon and Marek Hrbas — beat Simpson for his second goal of the night.
Former Blazer J.T. Barnett added a power-play goal of his own at 6:45 of the third, but it was too little too late for Everett.
An insurance marker from Brock Balson — his first goal as a Blazer — at 15:54 sealed the victory for Kamloops, in front of 3,899 fans at ISC.
Everett finished the night two for six on the power play, while Kamloops scored once in five man-advantages.
The victory extends the Blazers winning streak to six games, and pulls them to within one point of the Tri-City Americans in the WHL's Western Conference standings — and the league itself.
Tri-City dropped a 5-3 decision to the Chiefs in Spokane tonight.
The Blazers are now 31-10-1-2 on the season.
Next up for Kamloops is the Lethbridge Hurricanes, who will visit ISC on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Puck-drop versus the Canes is scheduled for 7 p.m.
