Blazers snag W

The Kamloops Blazers avoided losing three-straight WHL games with a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Giants at Interior Savings Centre on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Colin Smith brought his goal total to 19, tallying twice in support of winning netminder Cole Cheveldave, who made 26 saves.

Payton Lee made 29 saves in Vancouver's crease.

Both Regina and Saskatoon came from behind to beat the Blazers earlier this week — and the Giants gave Kamloops fans another scare late in Saturday's tilt.

At the midway mark of the final frame, Carter Popoff was credited with a goal after a puck he last touched deflected in off the skate of recently acquired Blazer forward Charles Inglis.

The Giants had several chances to tie the game, but Cheveldave was able to shut the door.

Kamloops (20-6-1-1) does not play again until Friday, Nov. 30, when the Tri-City Americans are in town.

Vancouver (7-17) is hosting Moose Jaw on Wednesday, Nov. 28
