WolfPack baseball continue winning
The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack improved to 9-4 in the Canadian College Baseball Conference after winning three of four weekend games over the host Vancouver Island University Mariners.
The Pack won both games Sunday, including a 7-0 shutout and 5-3 win.
In the first game, rookie righthander Danny Moore pitched a complete-game shutout. He gave up three hits, walked one and struck out four.
Moore is now 4-1 on the season.
TRU jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
The club added another deuce in the third and sixth innings, with a single run coming in the fifth.
Kyle Dhanani went two-for-three with a run scored, a double and an RBI.
Scott Nevison was three-for-four with two runs scored, a double and an RBI.
In the last game, Mike Tomlinson pitching in likely his last game with the WolfPack in front of friends and family on Vancouver Island, as he’s playing his final year of eligibility, notched his third victory of the year.
Tomlinson, now 3-2, went nine innings, giving up eight hits, three runs (two earned) with 13 strikeouts and two walks.
Dhanani was three-for-four scoring three runs, a double and a home run and having three RBIs.
Dhanani now has nine doubles, a team-leading three home runs and a team-leading 20 RBIs.
TRU opened the weekend with a 5-4 loss to the Mariners on Saturday.
However, the WolfPack came back to start a new winning streak, by shutting out the Mariners 4-0 in the nightcap.
TRU has the week off before heading to Lethbridge to take on the defending CCBC Champion Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs on April 18 and April 19.
