The event was a joint venture between the Thompson Rivers Interior Paddlesports Club and the Recreational Canoeing Association of B.C. that encourages teachers to incorporate canoeing into their curriculum.

The teachers were the students on May 17, which was a professional-development day for educators in the Kamloops-Thompson school district.
