A trip to the store to buy a Saturday morning paper led Domenico Di Giacomo to buy a scratch and win ticket on a whim.

That spur of the moment decision led to Di Giacomo winning $500,000.

He bought the paper — and ticket — at the Canco gas station in North Kamloops.

“When I pick my scratch and win tickets, I always pick the ticket in the middle,” Di Giacomo said. “I’ve been celebrating since last week.”

The odds of winning the $500,000 prize in the Jackpot scratch and win game is approximately 1 in 500,000.
