A run-of-the-mill morning made a Kamloops man a millionaire this month.
Greg Gauthier and his wife were scrolling through their inbox, as they do every morning, when they noticed an email notifying them that Gauthier won a $1 million prize in the May 7 Lotto 6/49 draw.
The ticket was purchased on the playnow.com website.
“Our first reaction was, ‘That is too many zeros,’” Gauthier said via a B.C. Lottery Corporation release. “We are quite excited.”
Gauthier described a feeling of being able to “put my kids and grandson in a great place” when asked how it feels to win the sizeable prize.
“I’m able to make life easier for my family and I really enjoy helping out,” he said.
The Kamloops couple first shared the news with their children, who were quite excited for their parents.
Gauthier planned to celebrate his windfall over a nice family dinner and is looking forward to taking some trips.
“I’m not going to argue if we get away during the winter months,” he added.
In 2021, B.C. lottery players redeemed more than $99 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49, a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 7:30 p.m. Each draw includes a guaranteed prize draw of $1 million.
