With Cupid quickly approaching, Gateway City Church is offering families the opportunity to set up a date night to commemorate Valentine’s Day.

Families, both from in the after-school program and outside of it, are invited to register their children for free childcare between 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10.

“It’s open to families in the community, families in our daycare, families in the church — anyone,” said Lia Heath, the church’s children’s director.

“We’re going to provide dinner, probably something like pizza, for the children who attend this time around. That’s new.”

The event, called Parents’ Night, is available to children between the ages of three and 11. Kids will engage in activities such as decorating sugar cookies, playing games and watching a movie.

The church offers regular programming during the school year for children at the daycare, separate from its Feb. 10 event, starting at 30 months of age and extending 11-year-olds. There is also daytime programming during the summer months for families in need.

The last Parents’ Night event was hosted at GCC for families over the winter holidays.

“We’re running it a little bit later this time around,” Heath said. “Last time, we ran it from 6 to 9 p.m., but if people want to go to a movie, quite often, it runs a little bit later than that, so we’re just adjusting it so [couples] have a little bit more time.”
