As a child, Windeler stayed in a Ronald McDonald House in Baltimore and Vancouver.

Money raised during the annual event goes to fund Ronald McDonald Houses and family rooms in hospitals, where families can stay while a child is in hospital.

In 2020, once the new patient-care tower is completed, Royal Inland Hospital will be getting a Ronald McDonald House family room.
