The City of Kamloops is inviting non-profit organizations and societies to submit applications for its revamped social planning grant for 2021.

With a new name and expanded criteria, the social and community development grant is meant to meet the needs of the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The grants will continue to provide funding for projects that address priorities identified in the Kamloops Social Plan, but they will now also support programs, projects, and services that align with city council’s strategic goal of livability.

This is meant to increase the number of applications by providing more flexibility on the types of projects that are eligible for funding.

Applications may be submitted for operational costs, special projects, special capital expenditures or one-year seed money for a social enterprise initiative.

Since 2018, the fund has allocated $45,000 for social enterprise and $45,000 for general social planning, with $10,000 of that earmarked specifically for seniors’ initiatives. Seniors’ initiatives, however, were severely underutilized, according to the city. Two of the three groups that were awarded these grants completed the three-year program.

Applicants for the new grant will need to demonstrate their initiative address at least on priority in the Kamloops Social Plan, enhance the well-being of the community, partner with other service providers, promote volunteering where appropriate, be well publicized and occur within the City of Kamloops.

The 2021 social and community development grant application deadline is Monday, Nov. 2, at 8 a.m.

To access the required application materials, visit the city’s grants and funding page at Applications must be submitted using the online form.

In early December, after an evaluation process, all applicants will be notified if they have been approved or denied.
