The Kamloops RCMP is hosting a Pride Week open house on Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The open house will take place at the North Shore Community Policing Office at 915 Seventh St.
Cpl. Dana Napier said the event was planned in consultation with Kamloops Pride to determine how the RCMP could best support and build trust with the 2SLGBTQPIA+ community.
“When we heard Pride Week would be back up with in-person celebrations, we wanted to be part of that and show our support for 2SLGBTQPIA+,”Napier said. “We worked together with Ashton O’Brien, president of the Kamloops Pride Society, to see how we could be involved.”
During the open house, people are invited to stop by, ask questions, provide feedback, participate in games and activities, win prizes and get to know some Kamloops Mounties.
"We are happy to see the RCMP taking steps to initiate and facilitate outreach with the 2SLGBTQPIA+ community in Kamloops, and putting in effort to build trust with the community," O’Brien said. "We hope this community outreach continues and helps to build bridges between police and the 2SLGBTQPIA+ community in Kamloops."
Everyone in the community is welcome to attend.
