The weekend has arrived and there is plenty on the recreation calendar. Here are some events and activities you may wish to consider attending:
• AA varsity High school football will hit the field at Hillside Stadium on Friday at 2 p.m., when the 10th-ranked South Kamloops Titans host the eighth-ranked College Heights Cougars of Prince George.
• The 2023 Twin River Classic dart tournament will be held on Friday (at 7 p.m.), Saturday (at 9:30 a.m.) and Sunday (at 9:30 a.m.) at the Royal Canadian Legion’s Kamloops branch, downtown at 425 Lansdowne St.
• The Kamloops Storm of the Kootenay International Hockey League will finish their pre-season schedule with two home games this weekend — Friday against Princeton and Saturday against 100 Mile House. Both games are on McArthur Island at 7 p.m.
• The Kamloops Blazers’ Western Hockey League pre-season schedule continues on Friday at 7 p.m. when the Victoria Royals visit Sandman Centre.
• The annual Children’s Art Festival, created by the Kamloops Arts Council, will be held in Riverside Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Read more about it in this story.
• There is rugby action on Saturday at 11 a.m. as the Kamloops Raiders will play Abbotsford in exhibition action.
• On Saturday, North Shore Business Improvement Association and Kamloops Immigrant Services are co-hosting the annual Dearborn Ford Tapestry Festival in McDonald Park in North Kamloops from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Read more about it in this story.
• The Kamloops branch of the B.C. Old Time Fiddlers’ Association is presenting the 52nd Provincial Old Time Fiddle Contest on Saturday at Heritage House in Riverside Park. The music will begin at 11:30 a.m., with a dance to follow at 6 p.m. More information is on the group’s Facebook page.
• The BC Junior Football Conference Kamloops Broncos are playing their season home opener on Saturday at Hillside Stadium when the Okanagan Sun visit for a 6 p.m. game. The Broncos will host a tailgate party and food bank fundraiser before the contest, starting at 4 p.m. Included will be bouncy castles, a dunk tank, face painting, various games and food.
• The first of the Chamber Musicians of Kamloops’ nine concerts will take place on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Kamloops United Church, downtown at St. Paul Street and Fourth Avenue. Read more about it in this story.
