Money raised helps families stay together while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital.

In Kamloops, a Ronald McDonald House family room will open in Royal Inland Hospital, once the patient-care tower expansion is completed in 2022.

The family room will allow families of children being treated in RIH to stay close to their kids.

McHappy Day was established in 1977 by McDonald's Canada founder George Cohon and has led to the creation of 15 Ronald McDonald Houses and 16 family rooms across the country, with more than 25,000 families from more than 1,800 communities supported each year.

In 2018, $6.1 million was raised on McHappy Day.
