Register your bike online for a chance at $25 to a local shop

A Facebook group dedicated to curbing the problem of bike theft in Kamloops has issued a challenge to its members to get bikes registered online — a move that would help police track them down if they were ever stolen.

Stolen Bikes Kamloops is giving away eight $25 gift certificates to members of the group who can prove they have registered their bike on 529 Garage, a website and app where bike owners can register their bike’s serial numbers, make and model.

Kamloops RCMP said that during a 38-day period beginning in June this year, 64 bikes were stolen in the city. The estimated value of the stolen bikes is $95,000.

The group has been active for just over a year and has recovered more than 20 bikes with the help of its members and the Kamloops RCMP.

To be eligible for the draw, join the Stolen Bikes Kamloops Facebook group and send proof (a link to your registered bike) to the group administrator.

The gift certificate draw will take place on Aug. 31.
