With clearer skies and seasonal temperatures in the forecast, the City of Kamloops is closing the smoke and heat refuge centre at Sandman Centre as of 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20.
The concourse in the arena downtown has been open daily since July 16 to give residents temporary relief from heat and wildfire smoke and offer an opportunity to stay active.
With clearer skies, Hillside Stadium at Thompson Rivers University is open daily at no charge, while residents can also encouraged to take advantage of the city's many parks and trails.
For an indoor walking alternative, residents can also visit the Tournament Capital Centre where indoor track passes are available for $21.40 per month. The TCC indoor track will fully reopen on Thursday, Aug. 26 as Interior Health is relocating the COVID-19 immunization clinic to Aberdeen Mall.
