In advance of flood and wildfire season, Thompson-Nicola Regional District residents who have registered for the regional district’s emergency alert system, Voyent Alert!, will receive a test notification next week.
The voluntary, opt-in service, which launched last year, is to be used by the regional district to notify residents in the event of wildfire or flood evacuation.
The regional district plans to test the system by sending out a notification via text messaging, phone call, email or through the app (whatever method of contact was selected by the registrant) on Friday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m.
Unlike a similar provincial emergency system, residents must register to receive the alerts. The TNRD has 2,000 active members registered for the service and is looking to increase the number of residents it can reach.
“We encourage all TNRD residents to do so ahead of the 2021 flood and wildfire seasons,” TNRD emergency program co-ordinator Kevin Skrepnek said in a press release.
