The annual VW Turtle River Race will be held on Sunday, May 7, in Riverside Park, with proceeds going to the Kamloops Brain Injury Association.
People can buy plastic turtles for the chance to win big prizes and help a worthwhile cause.
The two races will begin at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. and will see plastic turtles dropped in the South Thompson River and float downstream and across the finish line near the beach and pier in Riverside Park.
Owners of the first three turtles to cross the finish line in each race will win prize packages, with a first-place value of $7,750, a second-place value of $2,484 and a third-place value of $2,000.
Details of prizes in the packages can be found online at turtleriverrace.com. Information on buying tickets is also at that website.
Once the turtles cross the finish line, volunteers in canoes and kayaks will scoop them up and place them in storage until next year’s race.
Ticket sales for the first race end at 12:30 p.m., while second race sales end at 1:30 p.m.
The Kamloops Brain Injury Association will be operating a barbecue from noon to 3 p.m.
