As the family was sleeping, even the dog

The stockings were lit by the fire’s last glow

Waiting for Santa, all in a row

It seemed the whole family was tucked into bed

Except for Janet, who was packing instead

Mexico was calling, the sun and the beach

For Janet and Jacob, they were almost in reach

“Shall I take the bikini?” To herself she enquired

“I should take the one piece – its’ all boned & wired”

Into the pack went three pair of shorts

Then another pair followed — there’d be lots of sports

She felt like a pedlar as she filled up her sack

And reminded herself it would be on her back

Finally finished, she fell into bed

While visions of Mexico danced in her head

Far too early next day, as she had feared

With stocking in hand, her youngest appeared

Followed by brothers, Santa had been

And very soon the house was a sight to be seen

With paper all over and presents galore

This afternoon there would be even more

She went to the window and looked out at the day

To see many snowflakes making their way

To the top of the roof, to the top of the trees

And she thought to herself “go away please”

The day carried on, and family arrived

The roads had been bad, but they had survived

Dinner was ready, a sight to behold

With crackers to pull we will never grow old

As evening came on and daylight grew dim

Jacob arrived, decidedly grim

“The roads are all closed” he said with despair

“We can’t even fly — there is nothing by air”

They looked at each other — how could they go?

No way to the Coast because of the snow

When out on the lawn they heard a loud clatter

And ran out the door to see what was the matter

Out in the snow sat a beautiful sleigh

With a red-nosed reindeer leading the way

Dancing and prancing and ready to go

Were eight more reindeer, pawing the snow

With a red-cheeked old driver, smiling and quick

They knew in a heartbeat it must be St. Nick

With reins in his hands he called them by name

They were so lively they didn’t seem tame

Up Dasher, up Dancer, on Prancer and Vixen

Go Comet, go Cupid , on Donner and Blitzen.

With luggage in hand, they didn’t think twice

Into the sleigh they all jumped in a trice

Up to the roof-tops the reindeer they flew

With the sleigh close behind, and St. Nicholas too

Over the mountains covered with snow

They saw all the traffic stopped far below

Vancouver airport came into view

With many planes waiting, theirs was there too

The reindeer they landed with nary a bump

At terminal three, a snow-covered hump

With family in tow they jumped out of the sleigh

And thanked dear old Santa, for saving the day

With a wink of his eye and a nod of his head

He waved a goodbye with his bright glove of red

Then gathered the reins, to his team gave a cry

And away they all flew, into the sky

But they heard him call out, as he soared out of sight

Merry Christmas to you, and to you a good night.
