Annual sale features potters and other local artists

The Thompson Valley Potters Guild will hold its annual pottery and fine crafts sale this Saturday.

The sale will feature pottery, jewelry and other crafts made by local artisans.

“It’s not just pottery. It’s about half potters and some local jewellers and soapmakers — even stained glass makers,” said guild member Michelle Finlayson.

The sale is a juried one, with vendors selected by the potters guild.

Other vendors’ work includes paintings, fiber art, native art and knives.

Of course, the main focus of the sale is pottery, and even though it’s all local works, there’s a wide variety of styles on offer.

“Everybody’s style is so different. That’s why we can be in one show and not be competing,” Finlayson said.

The Thompson Valley Potters Guild has been around for 49 years now. It meets regularly to discuss techniques and style and host workshops. Some members are long-term production potters while others are more casual.

The annual sale will take place Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Desert Gardens, 540 Seymour St.
