The author of a book competing in CBC’s Canada Reads is coming to Kamloops.
Lindsay Wong, author of The Woo Woo: How I Survived Ice Hockey, Drug Raids, Demons and My Crazy Chinese Family, will be interviewed with CBC Kamloops host Shelley Joyce.
The event, organized by CBC Radio and the Kamloops Society for the Written Arts, will take place on Thursday, March 14, at 7 p.m. at the Sandman Signature Hotel, 225 Lorne St.
Wong is originally from Vancouver and published the book in 2018. In her book, she looks back at her childhood and the history of mental illness present in her family.
The title is a reference to the “woo-woo” — Chinese ghosts who sometimes visit in times of personal turmoil, of whom Wong’s schizophrenic grandmother was deeply afraid.
Aside from its position in Canada Reads, the book was also short-listed for the Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust of Canada prize for nonfiction.
Wong will also share photos and stories and take questions from the audience.
Admission is free. Tickets can be reserved online at kswa.ca.
