Hegan, born and raised in Kamloops, has written for more than 20 TV series and specials which have been broadcast on networks like CBC, TSN and The Comedy Network.

A recent production of his called Outrunners, a pandemic themed comedy/thriller, shot at various Kamloops locales in late 2020.

His Kamloops gig isn't the first screenwriter-in-residence position he's held. In 2019-2020, Hegan held that role at the Vancouver Public Library.

Some past claims to fame for Hegan include his work in co-writing the opening essay for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, which was read by Donald Sutherland. He's also been published by magazines like Rolling Stone and GQ.

Other ways his past experience will lend itself to his position in Kamloops include a six-year stint teaching screenwriting at the Vancouver Film School.

Hegan will hold the residency from September to December and his work will include one-on-one meetings with writers, group writing workshops, live script readings with Kamloops actors and film screenings in co-operation with the Kamloops Film Society.

Hegan will be the library's second writer-in-residence, following novelist Deryn Collier's term in 2019.
