Self-guided audio tour part of BC Culture Days in Kamloops

BC Culture Days will run for a full month this year with a mix of events in various formats, including in-person, livestreaming, digital downloads and self-guided tours.

In Kamloops, a self-guided tour called Code...Encode...Decode: A Subjective Soundwalk, will be held from Oct. 4 to Oct. 12.

The downtown event, created by life-long Kamloops resident and artist Daniela O'Fee, features site-specific audio recordings created using found sound, original compositions and obsolete media machine experiments.

Those on the tour can access the recordings via smartphone by scanning QR coded capsules found between the Red Bridge at Lorne Street and 4th Avenue and Seymour Street.

The sites at which recordings will be featured are places of personal significance to O'Fee, including her infant home by the railway tracks and her father's business on Victoria Street.

An earlier interpretation of the walk, called Tuning In Tuning Out for Solo Listener, is part of the permanent art collection at Thompson Rivers University.

A complete list of sites on the tour will be released closer to the event on the BC Culture Days website at culturedays.ca.

Headphones are optional for the walk, but recommended.
