A virtual recital will replace the annual concert raise money for the Peter Collins Memorial Fund.
The Kamloops Symphony Music School will showcase students in a virtual recital to be held on June 14 at 2 p.m. on the symphony's YouTube page.
Peter Collins was a talented singer and musician who enjoyed teaching voice and guitar to students at both the Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music and the Kamloops Symphony Music School.
Collins returned to Kamloops and took on the teaching role in 2008, often helping students in financial need by sourcing used instruments for students or adding extra time to their lessons.
"He knew what it was like to love music so much and to struggle to learn the craft, and he wanted to help any willing student to make their dreams happen," the KSO said of Collins.
After Collins died in 2015, a memorial bursary was created in his name, and KSO Music School showcase concerts have honoured his memory every year since.
The online recital will feature the school's most advanced students, including some who have gone on to post-secondary music studies. Each will record their performances in isolation due to physical distancing measures.
The recital is free to watch and users who wish to donate to the memorial fund can find information about how to do so during the broadcast.
