Young Kamloops actor appears in new feature-length mystery film

Oliver Tru Sison, 12, has made his film debut with Monkey Beach, a mystery film starring fellow Canadian actor Adam Beach that now available on streaming service Crave.

Oliver Tru Sison, 12, has made his film debut with Monkey Beach, a mystery film starring fellow Canadian actor Adam Beach that now available on streaming service Crave.

The film, written and directed by Loretta Todd, is described as a supernatural thriller, telling the story of a young Indigenous woman who, trying to turn her life around, returns to her hometown and discovers how dysfunctional her family has become.

It is based on the novel of the same name, written by B.C. author Eden Robinson. It won the 2001 Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize and was shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Governor General's Award for English-language fiction.

Sison was born in Vancouver and currently lives in Kamloops.

Monkey Beach is also a B.C. product — shot in Kitimat and Vancouver.
