As of noon on Thursday (Sept. 16), Rivers Trail between Riverside and Pioneer parks remains closed due to the presence of a bear in the area.

The city closed the popular pathway on Wednesday after a bear had been sighted in the area, with one report noting it was acting aggressively.

Conservation officers are monitoring the situation and residents are asked to obey all signage and avoid the area, including Pioneer Park.

The city will provide an update when the bear has left the area.

Bear sightings are increasing as fall approaches . If you come across a bear or other wildlife in the city, call the BC Conservation Officer reporting Line at 1-877-952-7277.
