The City of Kamloops has appointed an interim financial officer to temporarily fill the vacated corporate services director position.
Kathy Humphrey left the position effective Jan. 13 to take on a new job as the executive finance officer at the B.C. Legislature in Victoria.
City council has unanimously approved appointing planning and procurement manager David Hallinan to the role of interim financial officer until the city fills the role permanently.
In her role as corporate services director, Humphrey acted as the city’s financial officer.
Under the Community Charter, one of the municipal officer positions must be assigned the responsibility of financial administration. Those duties include receiving funds paid to the city, the keeping of all funds and securities, investing municipal funds, expending municipal money as authorized by council, keeping accurate records of the financial affairs of the city and exercising control and supervision over all other financial affairs.
Council’s first finance committee meeting is scheduled for Jan. 25.
