The City of Kamloops has started work on a stretch of 12th Street, south of Tranquille Road and east of Kenora Road, an area that surrounds NorKam secondary.

The 300-metre stretch, which has been littered with pot holes and other road wear and tear for years, is being fully reconstructed.

Crews in the area are at work to replace the existing water main, repave the road with replaced curb, gutters and sidewalks, complete pavement markings and install traffic-calming items.

Roadwork is ongoing until the end of October. During August, the street remains open to southbound traffic heading toward McArthur Island. A northbound detour is available via Cottonwood Avenue.

In September and October, 12th Street will be reduced to a single lane of alternating traffic. The intersection of Delta Avenue and 12th Street will remain closed with a detour via Barrie Drive. The Barrie Drive intersection with 12th Street is open to local traffic only.

The city in recent years completed work on the stretch of 12th Street north of Tranquille Road, repaving the route and making sidewalk enhancements as far north as Lethbridge Avenue.
