COVID-19 update: 596 new cases, eight further deaths over past 24 hours

B.C. is reporting 596 new cases of COVID-19 and eight further deaths over the past 24 hours.

None of the deaths occurred in Interior Health, but the region did see 115 new cases reported on Thursday.

Most of the cases occurred in the Fraser Health region, with 222. Elsewhere, there were 159 cases in Northern Health, 54 in Island Health and 46 in Vancouver Coastal Health.

Hospitalization numbers remain elevated, with 438 people in hospital and 130 of those patients in ICUs. The province currently has 4,451 active cases.

From Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, 64.5 per cent of cases were among those not fully vaccinated, while over the past two weeks, from Oct. 20 to Nov. 2, the same group accounted for 71.8 per cent of hospitalizations.

B.C.'s vaccination rate as of Thursday was 90.1 per cent for at least one dose and 85.6 per cent for at least two doses, among those age 12 and older.
