B.C. is reporting 696 new cases of COVID-19 and six further deaths.

Interior Health saw none of the new deaths reported Wednesday, but did account for 118 of the new cases.

Elsewhere, there were 252 in Fraser Health, 76 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 191 in Northern Health and 59 in Island Health.

Five of the deaths occurred in the Fraser Health region, while one occurred in Vancouver Coastal.

The province currently has 4,888 active cases, continuing a slow decline. Hospitalizations, meanwhile, remain elevated, with 370 patients and 139 of those requiring critical care in ICUs.

Hospitalization numbers are likely higher, since the province recently revealed patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19 are removed from the tally once they are no longer infectious.

Most cases over the past week (67.2 per cent) have been among the unvaccinated, and over the past two weeks, 75 per cent of those admitted to hospital with positive COVID-19 tests have been unvaccinated or with only one dose.

The province's vaccination rates among those 12 and older as of Wednesday were 89.3 per cent for single doses and 83.6 per cent for both doses.
