Kamloops firefighters douse a blaze in a car behind Sandman Centre at about 3 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 23.

Kamloops Mounties and Kamloops Fire Rescue are investigating after an SUV parked behind Sandman Centre went up in flames amid a few explosions in the wee hours of Monday morning (Dec. 23).

The vehicle — which was parked in the lot on the east side of the arena — was destroyed, though there has been no word on injuries.

A resident living nearby said it appears as though someone was living in the white SUV as curtains had been seen in the vehicle. The explosions may have been propane tanks detonating inside the vehicle, the resident said.

KTW is awaiting calls back from the Kamloops RCMP obtain more information on the incident.

Kamloops Fire Rescue acting platoon captain Chris Burnham said the call came in after 3 a.m.

According to Burnham, crews arrived to find an SUV on fire in the middle of the parking lot.

“They showed up, put it out and called RCMP,” he said.

Burnham said police contacted the SUV’s registered owner.
