An online fundraiser has been launched to help the family of a Kamloops man killed in a workplace accident last week.

Wade Lieuwen, 34, died in an Oct. 15 accident at River City Fibre on Mission Flats Road.

The fundraiser at was started by the Reeds, family friends of the Lieuwens. Gary Reed is a partner at A&T Project Developments and his wife, Caitlyn, launched the fundraiser.

The goal is to raise $100,000 to help Wade’s widow, Megan, and their two children, 10-year-old Sienna and eight-year-old Brylee.

In explaining the fundraiser, Caitlyn said the Lieuwens had recently started their own industrial equipment and repair company after Wade's career with Finning.

“If you’ve known Megan and Wade, you know that they are dreamers,” Caitlyn wrote. “Because of the clear intention behind their every action, they’ve made these dreams come true. They faced challenges and hurdles along the way, but they persevered. Every decision they’ve made has been for their family’s happiness, balance and the betterment of those around them. They are authentic, talented, honest, hard-working people with envious small-town charm.”

Caitlyn said the family is now faced with an “enormous hurdle,” which is why the fundraiser was created.

In the first day of the fundraiser, Oct. 20, more than $37,000 has been raised.

“I can confirm that we are investigating a death matching the date and location you’ve provided,” BC Coroners Service spokesperson Ryan Panton told KTW in response to a query. “As the investigation remains open, we’re unable to provide any additional information at this time.”
