Highway 1 crash and truck fire under investigation

The drivers of the two tractor-trailers were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries following the Aug. 2 accident.

Police are investigating the Monday, Aug. 2, collision on the Trans-Canada Highway that caused a truck to catch fire.

 At about 5:50 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report of an accident involving two tractor-trailer units in the westbound lanes of the highway, across from Costco.

Const. Crystal Evelyn said that, according to the initial investigation, a truck caught fire after it rear-ended another truck.

There were also reports of explosions being heard in the area.

Firefighters doused the flames and the drivers of both trucks were taken by paramedics to Royal Inland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The highway was closed for a short time.
