Kamloops captures award of excellence at UBCM convention

The city won the Excellence in Governance Award for its Let’s Talk commitment that guided Kamloops' engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City of Kamloops has won a Community Excellence Award at this week’s annual Union of BC Municipalities convention, which is taking place online due to the pandemic.

The awards showcase municipalities and regional districts that have implemented projects and programs that demonstrate excellence in meeting the purposes of local government in B.C. 

The city won the Excellence in Governance Award for its Let’s Talk commitment that guided Kamloops' engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic. Honourable mention went to the City of Burnaby for its Mayor’s Task Force on Community Housing.

The Excellence in Governance Award demonstrates decision-making processes and policies that are outcomes-based and consensus oriented, support and encourage citizen participation, are efficient, equitable, inclusive and transparent and exemplify best practices in accountability, effectiveness, and long-term thinking.

The 2020 award sponsors are the Municipal Finance Association of BC, Urban Systems and Joint Provincial-UBCM Green Communities Committee.
