Kamloops firefighters managed to get a fire at an empty storefront in North Kamloops under control in short order on Wednesday (June 30).
Crews were called to the former Pool Mart store, now empty, in the 200-block of Tranquille Road at just after 4 p.m.
Numerous callers reported smoke coming from the building, which is immediately south of The Station and Bright Eye Brewery.
A neighbouring business owner told KTW black smoke could be seen billowing out of the roof of the building, but firefighters had the fire out in a short period of time.
As of about 4:30 p.m., Kamloops Fire and Rescue had more than 16 firefighters and four trucks at the scene. Tranquille Road was closed between Clapperton Road and Minos restaurant.
Firefighters used a ladder to access the roof and could be seen using the fire hose to help keep themselves cool amidst the heat. Kamloops Mounties were at the scene for traffic control.
There has been no word yet on cause of the fire.
