A police response in Dufferin on Monday night concerned a mental-health crisis, with officers managing to get a man to hospital for treatment.

Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said officers were called to a home on Mount Dufferin Crescent just before midnight for a report of a man experiencing a drug-induced mental-health crisis and behaving in a threatening manner.

Evelyn said officers could not calm the agitated man and, due to the risk he posed to officers and himself, decided to use a Taser to apprehend him.

Evelyn said the man continued to be combative with police after he was placed in handcuffs.

With the help of paramedics, Evelyn said, the man was transported to Royal Inland Hospital for medical treatment under the Mental Health Act.
