Kamloops Mounties have arrested a suspect in connection to a shooting that took place more than a year ago in North Kamloops.
Tristan Alan Olson, 23, of Kamloops, was arrested on a warrant last Monday (May 21) at about 3:30 p.m., with polcie finding him “near the North Shore Community Policing Office,” an RCMP press release stated.
On Dec. 30, 2019, at approximately 5:19 a.m., officers attended 349 Alexander Dr., and discovered nearby a 24-year-old man with what were described as life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was taken to Royal Inland Hospital in serious, but stable condition.
Olson has been charged with discharge a firearm with the intent to wound, aggravated assault, use a firearm while committing or attempting to commit aggravated assault or while fleeing afterwards, possessing a firearm without a license and possessing a firearm knowing the serial number was altered, defaced or removed.
The shooting was believed to be targeted and the residence and people involved known to police as part of the local drug trade.
Multiple police cruisers could be found in the area that day, including one blocking the home’s driveway backing on to an alley where what appeared to be blood could be seen in puddles along the muddy alleyway.
Investigators canvassed the neighbourhood and two people were detained at the scene for questioning and later released.
About a week later, police said they had identified a suspect, but no arrest had been made.
“Since then, the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit has continued its investigation and assembled a case for charge recommendation to the BC Prosecution Service,” RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.
Charge approval lead to the issuance of Olson’s warrant.
Olson was remanded in custody with his next court appearance scheduled for June 3.
