New traffic light at Summit Drive and Highway 1 on-ramp

The new signal will provide vehicles heading southbound from Sahali to Highway 1 with a left-turn arrow as they make the eastbound left turn from Summit Drive to the highway on-ramp

A new signal light will soon be activated at the intersection of Summit Drive and the Highway 1 on-ramp in Sahali, between Springhill Drive and Notre Dame Drive.

The new traffic signal will provide vehicles heading southbound from Sahali to Highway 1 with a left-turn arrow as they make the eastbound left turn from Summit Drive to the highway on-ramp.

The intersection will still provide two crosswalks at the on-ramp for pedestrians and cyclists.

One crossing has no signal and is controlled by a multi-use pathway crosswalk sign with pavement markings, while the other will be controlled with pedestrian crossing signals.

Meanwhile the City of Kamloops has completed making permanent barricades to the right lane at the southern on-ramp to Overlanders Bridge from Victoria Street West with the recent installation of concrete blocks.

The move came this fall after a spring pilot project testing a new traffic pattern giving traffic coming eastbound to the bridge from the Summit Connector a free flowing lane that was previously stop-light controlled. The pilot, which saw two lanes merge into one at the signal light junction, sought to better improve the intersection flow by reducing the congestion caused by the traffic signal, which will be deactivated.
