The Wendy's restaurant on the North Shore was demolished after being gutted inn April 10, 2020, fire.

Investigators say they are unable to pinpoint the cause of a fire earlier this month that destroyed a North Shore fast-food restaurant because evidence showing where the blaze began was destroyed by flames.

The Wendy’s restaurant at Tranquille Road and Fortune Drive was reduced to rubble following a fire in the early-morning hours of April 10.

No one was inside the building at the time and there is no indication the blaze was sparked intentionally.

“For us, the investigation is over,” Kamloops Fire Rescue investigator Dean Olstad told KTW. “It will be officially undetermined.”

Olstad said he believes the fire started on or near the roof of the restaurant.

“But with all the units they had there — condensers, HVAC, all the wiring — I can’t pinpoint it to one of them. There was just too much damage. There’s no way to know exactly where it started.”

The North Shore Wendy’s employed between 16 and 20 people, according to the chain’s district manager Alma Porras. She said those workers were offered shifts at Wendy’s restaurants in Sahali and Valleyview following the fire.

The building was demolished last week.
