One hundred reported thefts from vehicles in Kamloops in August

Items commonly stolen from vehicles include smartphones, wallets, tools, garage door openers, sunglasses, keys, documents, car accessories, cash or change and personal electronics such as laptops, tablets and GPS systems.

Kamloops saw 100 thefts from motor vehicles and 38 thefts of bicycles in the month of August.

That figure includes 29 thefts from vehicles in the first week, 29 in the second, 28 in the third and 14 in the last week of August. Data was not made available for Aug. 1, Aug. 30 and Aug. 31.

Police advise people ensure their vehicles are kept locked and valuables out of plain sight — preferably in the trunk of the car — to help prevent this crime of opportunity.
