Poll by poll: a look at the Kamloops election

Mayor-elect Reid Hamer-Jackson’s big push came from North Shore, Westsyde and east Kamloops

Kamloops mayor-elect Reid Hamer-Jackson’s election night victory was aided by strong support on the North Shore and in Westsyde and the east side of the city.

Meanwhile, runner-up Dieter Dudy saw strongest backing from voters up the middle of Kamloops — including downtown and Lower Sahali, Upper Sahali.

Hamer-Jackson was elected mayor on Oct. 15 with 7,298 votes. Dieter Dudy was second with 5,650 votes, followed by Sadie Hunter (4,578), Arjun Singh (2,932) and Ray Dhaliwal (2,629).

Hamer-Jackson topped 11 of 19 polls, including all four polling stations on the North Shore (Brocklehurst, McArthur Island, NorKam Secondary and Arthur Hatton elementary), both polling stations in Westsyde (Westmount, where he lives, and Arthur Stevenson elementary) and polling stations in Dallas, Juniper Ridge, Barnhartvale, Valleyview and Dufferin.

Dudy topped seven polls: downtown Heritage House advance and general voting day dates, Aberdeen, Lower Sahali, Sagebrush/South Kamloops, Rayleigh and Upper Sahali.

Hunter topped the polls in mail-in and special opportunity (Royal Inland Hospital, care homes and Thompson Rivers University) ballots.

Neither Singh nor Dhaliwal topped any polls.

Some notable highlights from the Oct. 15 election:

Advance polls:

• In the three-day advance polls on McArthur Island, Hamer-Jackson led the way with 964 votes, followed by Dudy (553), Hunter (391), Dhaliwal (387) and Singh (350);

• In the three-day advance polls at Heritage House downtown, Dudy led the way with 799 votes, followed by Hamer-Jackson (677), Hunter (405), Singh (343) and Dhaliwal (252).

General election day:

• Hamer-Jackson received the most votes (680) at Arthur Stevenson elementary;

• Hamer-Jackson’s lowest vote count (114) was in Rayleigh;

• Dudy received the most votes (508) in Aberdeen;

• Dudy’s lowest vote count (116) was at Arthur Hatton elementary in North Kamloops;

• The tightest polling station race between Hamer-Jackson and Dudy was in Aberdeen, where Dudy received just one more vote than Hamer-Jackson: 508-507;

• Hamer-Jackson’s largest margin of victory over Dudy was at NorKam secondary, where Hamer-Jackson won by 393 votes (705 to 312).

• Dudy’s largest margin of victory over Hamer-Jackson was in Upper Sahali, where Dudy won by 136 votes (472 to 336);

• Hunter received the most votes (365) in Aberdeen;

• Hunter’s lowest vote count (113) was in Rayleigh;

• Singh received the most votes (229) in Aberdeen;

• Singh’s lowest vote count (65) was in Rayleigh;

• Dhaliwal received the most votes (255) at NorKam secondary;

• Dhaliwal’s lowest vote count (63) was at Arthur Hatton elementary in North Kamloops.

• While Hamer-Jackson and Dudy finished first or second in 13 of the 19 polling stations, Hunter finished second in five polls: Arthur Hatton elementary in North Kamloops, Lower Sahali, Heritage House downtown, Sagebrush/South Kamloops and Westmount elementary in Westsyde;

• Dhaliwal placed second in Brocklehurst;
