Province reports 759 new cases, 10 further deaths due to COVID-19

B.C. health officials are reporting 759 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 further deaths due to the disease. While none of the deaths occurred in the Interior Health region, the region did lead the province in new cases on Wednesday with 233.

B.C. health officials are reporting 759 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 further deaths due to the disease.

While none of the deaths occurred in the Interior Health region, the region did lead the province in new cases on Wednesday with 233.

Elsewhere, there were 214 new cases in Fraser Health, 129 in Northern Health, 101 in Vancouver Coastal Health and 79 in Island Health.

Of the province's 5,458 active cases, 324 are in hospital, with 157 of those requiring critical care in ICUs.

Of the 10 deaths that occurred in the past 24 hours, seven were in Fraser Health, two in Vancouver Coastal Health and one in Island Health.

Updated data on vaccination status of those infected and hospitalized was not provided on Wednesday, but recent rates have shown the unvaccinated to account for 70 per cent of all new cases and 80 per cent of all hospitalizations.

B.C.’s vaccination coverage as of Wednesday was 87.1 per cent for single doses for everyone age 12 and older, and 79.7 per cent coverage for second doses.
