Kamloops Mounties are investigating a downtown robbery that involved a vehicle apparently being set ablaze in Riverside Park.

At approximately 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday (Aug. 3), police received a report of a robbery at a business in the 1300-block of Battle Street, which is home to myriad commercial locations.

Police were given a description of the getaway vehicle — a blue van reported as stolen — and updates provided noted the suspect vehicle had been involved in two collisions. Shortly after receiving the robbery call, police found the van on fire in Riverside Park.

Police arrested two suspects who were near the washrooms at the park, while a third suspect was later taken into custody on Overlanders BRidge shortly afterwards, Const. Crystal Evelyn told KTW.

Kamloops Fire Rescue also attended to help extinguish the vehicle fire.

Three people, two men and a woman who are all known to police remain in custody and the investigation is ongoing, Evelyn said, adding police are not releasing further information at this time.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to contact police at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 21-26688.
